Chappatis Recipe

Chappatis are by far the most popular type of Indian bread are eaten all over India. This Chappatis recipe is a classic and is really simple to make.

This recipe is enough to make 8 Chappatis




Ingredients

  • 225g Wholemeal flour

  • 1/2 tsp Salt

  • 150 ml Water

  • 50g Butter

  • 1 Tbs clarified butter (ghee)

Method

Mix the flour and salt into a big bowl with the butter. Mix together with your hands and then make a well in the middle of the mixture. Pour in half of the water and keep mixing the mixture together. Add the rest fo the water gradually while mixing.

Form all of the dough into a big ball and knead for a good 5 - 10 minutes. Cover the dough and put it aside for a good ten minutes.

Find a chooping bopard or flat surface and cover it in a thin layer of flour. Divide the big ball of dough into about 8 smaller balls and then flatter to about 10 cm wide.

Heat a large frying pan and place one of the chappatis into it and flatten when little bubbles or blister appear.

Brush each chappati with some clarified butter or ghee and out them somewhere to keep warm.
