Parathas Recipe

Parathas are a type of wholewheat bread and are usually shallow fried and are very commono in India, especially in the South. This Parathas recipe is very simple and very delicious so I hope you enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 230g Wholemeal flour

  • 160g Ghee or clarified butter

  • 110ml Water

  • 1 tsp Salt

Method

Mix two large tablespoons of Ghee or butter in a big bowl with the flour and salt and using fingers, knead together untill all of the ghee (or butter) has been absorbed. Pour in about 50ml of water and keep kneading the mixture untill it forms a dough. You may need to add more water if it is too dry.

Put it onto flat and well floured surface and keep kneading it for about ten minutes. Next, make it into a ball and set it aside for about an 45 minutes.

Divide the ball into about 4 bits and roll them out untill they are nice and thin (and round). Brush with a little ghee or butter.

Fold in half and then in quarters and then roll them out flat again. Brush with more ghee and fold again, half and then quarters. Do this three or four times or untill nearly all of the Ghee has been used up. they should end up round not more than 20cm wide.

Gently heat the last of the ghee in a large frying pan. Throw in a paratha and cook for about 4 minutes on one side and then, adding more brushing the top of the paratha with some more ghee, flip it over and cook for another 2 minutes.

It should end up nice and brown all over. Serve it nice and hot.

I hope you enjoy this Paratha recipe
